Steve Barclay Says Boris Johnson Should Remain an MP After Next Election

Boris Johnson ‘still has a very important role to play in politics’ and should remain an MP after the next election, says Steve Barclay

Boris Johnson still has a “big role to play” in politics and should remain an MP after the next general election, the Health Secretary said yesterday.

Steve Barclay said his former boss had “accomplished a lot,” particularly his leadership in the Ukraine war.

His endorsement comes after Johnson criticized the Cabinet Office for handing over information to police related to possible lockdown breaches.

Asked on Sky if the former prime minister was ‘toasting’, Barclay replied: ‘No, I think Boris has a very important role to play. We saw his leadership in the country’s response to Ukraine.

“Of course I want to see Boris back as an MP… Boris achieved a lot of things.”

Steve Barclay said his former boss had “accomplished a lot,” particularly his leadership in the Ukraine war.

Johnson named Barclay health secretary after Sajid Javid resigned, sparking a wave of resignations that ended with the ouster of the then prime minister.

Over the weekend, Johnson insisted that the new claims that he broke lockdown rules are “a bunch of bullshit.”

He told Sky News: “I think it’s ridiculous that items from my diary are being selected and handed over to the police… without anyone having basic common sense to ask me what these entries refer to.”
