Honda finds a loophole and delivers Verstappen a major upgrade in Austria

Formula 1 was hit hard by the corona crisis and various restrictions were imposed on the teams and engine suppliers. Teams were required to close the doors of their factories for a period of 63 days. Engine suppliers also had to shut down their factories for weeks.

However, Honda made clever use of the regulations and bypassed the rules in hopes of benefiting from the start of the season. The rules stipulate that factories located in countries with different laws and regulations, or unions, can extend the closing periods.

Honda appears in Austria with an improved version of its power source. A strategic move, the F1 site reports, as only one engine upgrade may be introduced this season for the MGU-K, electronics and CE. The development of the specification used in the first race is largely frozen.

The new Honda engine that Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon get in their RB16 not only delivers more power, but would also be more reliable. The Japanese hope to close the gap to Mercedes and Ferrari with the new specification. The results of the dyno (test bench, ed.) Would be positive.

In total, the engine manufacturers had to cease operations for 56 days. It is unknown how many days Honda has worked on its power unit.
