On the Port Boinot site in Niort, the Dryer opened its doors in early July. Dedicated to culture and tourism, the “Épona – Secrets of our heritage” space enhances the heritage wealth of the territory “between the plain and the Marshes”.
This new equipment was installed in the dryer of the Boinot chamoiserie, the central point of the site. For its second life, this industrial building with an area of 1,030 m2, was designed as a place of reception, information and mediation on the history, architecture, landscapes of Niortais for the inhabitants and visitors. This gateway to the territory is linked with the other facilities of the City and Niort Agglo site and will help to complete the networking of the cultural and tourist offer. The historic dryer was a building of the former Boinot chamoiserie / glove factory, founded by Théophile Boinot in 1881, the last representative of this sector of activity, in Niort, which closed its doors for good in 2005. During its golden age , between the two wars, it employed more than 1,000 people.
