Here is the price of the electric station wagon

The electric station wagon MG5 is approaching delivery. The importer announces that they will start test drives from April, and that the customer cars will be delivered from May.

The car comes in two equipment levels; Comfort and Luxury, and will cost 309,990 kroner and 324,990 kroner, respectively. This without shipping and delivery. The cars have a 7-year or 150,000 kilometer warranty.

According to the importer, the MG5 is the world’s first all-electric station wagon, which is true if one does not consider the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo as a station wagon. All comparisons with the popular electric car from Stuttgart stop there, for better or worse.

The MG5 is poised to do well in the low-cost family car segment. The importer has ambitions to sell a couple of thousand copies a year.

It has a range of 400 kilometers, can be fast-charged with a relatively modest 87 kilowatts, but supports 11 kilowatts home charger.

479 liters, 500 kg trailer

The car is 4.6 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and 1.54 meters high. It has a luggage compartment of 479 liters, which can be increased to 1367 liters if you fold down the rear seats. It also has a towbar, but the capacity is only 500 kg with 50 kg ball pressure.

Now you can properly pull large trailers if you have a driver’s license that allows it. With regular class B, you are limited to mini trailers. These can solve many simple shipping tasks.

The unladen weight is 1562 kg, but the importer does not state the permitted total weight. According to MG’s website, the total weight is 2017 kg. Thus, the maximum payload is 455 kg, or 91 per. person with five on board. Probably good enough for most families with young children.

MG5 also has the option of roof loads of up to 75 kg. So even though it may not excel with extreme numbers, it tends to be a pretty useful electric car in any case.

Front wheel drive

Inside this Chinese car you will find a battery pack of 61.1 kilowatt hours. The engine is mounted at the front and provides up to 115 kilowatts, with a torque of a maximum of 280 newton meters. If you want to drive fast, the top speed is 185 kilometers per hour. Zero to one hundred takes 8.3 seconds.

Standard equipment on the Comfort variant includes air conditioning, LED headlights, front seat heating, parking sensor, 7-inch instrument panel screen, 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and nine driver assistance functions such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency brake.

If you spend 15,000 kroner extra and go for the Luxury variant, you also get a 360-degree camera, automatic glare of gossip mirrors, electric seats with lumbar support, seat covers in imitation leather and 17-inch aluminum rims.

All variants have the infotainment system MG iSmart, which supports Apple Car Play and Android Auto, and app management via MG’s mobile app.

Can supply power to socket

The car also has a so-called Vehicle to Load (V2L), which means that you can sneak 230 volt AC out of the battery via the car’s charging port. To take advantage of this, you must buy a special charging cable with a Schuko connector at one end. This is optional.

The V2L system can be charged with a maximum of 2.2 kilowatts, and can prove useful in many situations, whether you are camping, have a cabin without electricity or just want to fire up the table saw in a place where there is no electricity.
