Hérault, Aveyron, Pyrénées-Orientales … Where are motorhomes going to flock this summer in Occitania?

With the gradual lifting of health restrictions, motorhome enthusiasts are back on the road. This summer, for lack of being able to go abroad, they will be particularly numerous to travel through Occitania.

This summer, motorhome drivers should flock to Occitania. The region is one of their favorite destinations, according to a study conducted by Camping Car Park, a network of rest areas and services for motorhomes. Holidaymakers are expected to be even more numerous because of the restrictions on travel abroad imposed by the health crisis. 98% of them plan to stay in France, including 15.5% in Occitanie.

Occitanie, the third most popular region for motorhome enthusiasts

For this summer 2021, Occitanie is indeed one of the favorite destinations for motorhome operators, behind Brittany and New Aquitaine. The region is expected to benefit from more than 3 million overnight stays.

13.7% of travelers questioned express a preference for the Pyrénées-Orientales, 13.6% for Hérault, and 10% for Aveyron.

Economic benefits for the territories

The presence of these vacationers could be a financial boon for the departments concerned. This year is marked by an increased desire to support local businesses.

Motorhomes are eager to get back on the road and eat local. This is good news for our communities and our businesses, while the tourist activity has been strongly impacted by the health crisis.

Laurent Morice, founder of Camping-Car Park.

Most motorhomes have planned to increase their budget. According to the estimate of Camping-Car Park, a couple of motorhomes spend an average of 56 € per day: 46 € for local economic players and 10 € for accommodation.

Over the summer as a whole, this represents consumption of 191 million euros in the region. 26 million euros should be spent in the Pyrénées-Orientales and Hérault, and more than 20 million euros in Aveyron.

The motorhome, holidays compatible with the health crisis?

Due to their fairly high average age (over 65), motorhome operators are mostly vaccinated against Covid-19, or plan to be. As their vehicle is both a mode of transport and accommodation, the risk of contamination between travelers is relatively low.
