Hebein wants to extend pop-up cycle paths until November

And yet it wasn’t just friends of the new bike tracks. The police, for example, criticized the fact that they were not involved in the security concept. ÖAMTC experts said that the cycle paths had disadvantages for both cyclists and drivers.

Criticism also came from all other parties. The ÖVP and the Neos criticized Hebein’s pop-up policy. The FPÖ even held a rally. And there was also a crisis in the coalition with the SPÖ: in the Donaustadt district parliament, the majority voted against the cycle path on Wagramer Strasse – including the SPÖ.

Deputy Mayor Birgit Hebein from the Technical University (TU) asked how the paths are accepted. According to Hebein, this evaluation shows that the temporary cycle paths in Praterstrasse, Lassallestrasse and Wagramer Strasse are particularly well received. “We would like to make this infrastructure available to cyclists for a longer period of time and are looking into extending it until November 1st,” said the Greens boss.
