Health – Ludwigshafen am Rhein – BASF expands disinfectant supply – Health

Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) – In the corona crisis, the BASF Group is expanding the free supply of hand disinfectants to other areas of the healthcare system. After the company had considered hospitals in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region in the past few days, the chemical giant is initially concentrating on general practitioners’ offices with emergency care functions, BASF said on Friday. So far, well over 1000 clinics, medical practices and similar facilities from all over Germany have registered. Since the production capacities at the Ludwigshafen site are limited to around 35 tons per week, priorities have to be set.

BASF is not a traditional manufacturer of disinfectants. The company also does not produce the essential raw materials. These were purchased externally by the company and would have been used in the value chain to manufacture other products. The chemical giant had received special approval from the Ministry of Health in Mainz for production.
