Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The players of the Bundesliga soccer team SC Freiburg keep in touch even in times of individual training due to the coronavirus crisis. “We use a Whatsapp group in which we exchange ideas. Some of us moan that our fitness workload is really exhausting,” said midfielder Nicolas Höfler (30) with a smile from the “Badische Zeitung” (Friday).
Training plans would include running, strength training, injury prevention, and stability exercises on a mat. Fitness trainer Daniel Wolf “recorded videos in which he demonstrates all exercises,” said Höfler. “The club also had a spinning bike delivered to our home.” He assumes that exercises with the ball will also be included in the home training program “in the next few days and weeks”.
The Bundesliga is currently paused until April 2 at least. It is still unclear whether, and if so, when the season can then be played to the end. Due to the game break, the clubs must inevitably forego millions of dollars in revenue.
That is also why Höfler would be ready to play without a spectator. “If we don’t manage to finish the season in any way, clubs may have to go bankrupt,” said the 30-year-old. “Of course I’m not a fan of games without spectators. But now it’s more than just sports.” When asked about a possible salary waiver, he said: “You have to make sure that you find solutions together. And that’s where the players are asked to make their contribution.”
