“He used religion to legitimize abuse”: the generals’ extraordinary criticism of Trump for using force against a peaceful protest | Univision Politica News

In just days, two former chiefs of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, James MattisTrump’s general and former secretary of defense and other high officials condemned the use of the National Guard to repress Americans in their own country. They also condemned that this repression of peaceful protesters in Washington DC was to open up the step to Trump to take photos in front of a church.

Mattis, who resigned in December 2018 in protest to Trump’s decision to withdraw troops from Syria leaving “allies” of the US alone, he had not publicly commented on the president’s work. However, nationwide protests against racism and police abuse against blacks following Floyd’s death in police custody led Mattis and other servicemen to write opinion pieces rejecting Trump’s actions.

“Donald Trump is the first president I have seen in my life who does not try to unite the American people, does not even intend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort … three years without mature leadership, “Mattis wrote in a withering criticism of what the President, true to form, answered with insults on Twitter.

Here, a brief summary of the comments of these high officials and ex-officers on the actions of President Trump.
