Incidence, circulation of the virus … How is the epidemic evolving in Hauts-de-France?

1

The incidence remains high, especially in the North

This is where the shoe pinches since the use of this indicator at the end of May. As of May 31, the seven-day rolling incidence rate in Hauts-de-France was, as in the previous week, higher than the national rate. There were 8.2 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the region, compared to 5.25 in France.

And while this rate has dropped by 0.85 point in the country, it increased slightly in the region (+0.1 point) and even clearly in
the North where it goes from 10.9 cases / 100,000 to 12.7. The department therefore remains classified in orange on this point.

But Pas-de-Calais is a pretty good student, with 3.3 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants (-1.6 points).

2

Good point in terms of virus circulation

This is the first time that the famous effective R, the number of people infected by an infected patient, has been revealed at the regional level. The previous week, we knew that the Hauts-de-France departments, in green for this indicator, were below 1, a rate below which the epidemic is regressing. We learn this week that the region even has a reproduction rate of the virus below the national average, with an R at 0.71 against 0.76 (-0.01 point).

3

Three clusters in Pas-de-Calais, seven in the North

On this point, Hauts-de-France does not really follow the national upward trend. Good news which could hide a less good one: that of an invisible circulation of the virus, which is feared by the first observations of the contact tracing teams of the Health Insurance, themselves surprised by the number of zero patients and contact people well below expectations.

Even if it is too early to interpret the figures, several hypotheses could explain the differential: either the epidemic is really slowing down, or people with symptoms suggestive of Covid do not go to their doctor and are not tested “Said Health Insurance in late May.

As of June 3, excluding EHPAD and a restricted family environment, 150 foci of transmission or episodes of grouped cases have been reported in France, compared with 109 as of May 27.

While in Hauts-de-France, as in the previous week, 11 are still being investigated or managed: one more in the North (7), but still 3 in Pas-de-Calais and one in the Somme (no more in the Oise).

Of the 15 clusters identified between May 9 and June 3, 5 were in work, 4 in health facilities, 3 in social establishments or vulnerable communities, 1 in schools and 1 in a limited geographic unit.
