SampNews24 Exclusive – Former referee Bergonzi comments on the Lecce-Sampdoria episodes

Mauro Bergonzi, former referee of A league and among the best moviolisti in Italy, has intervened exclusively to the microphones of Sampnews24.com to comment Lecce-Sampdoria.

Before going into the details of the individual episodes, let’s do the usual summary on the work of the referee triad.
«In a very bad game, with two teams afraid of the stakes, the result was determined by four key episodes: three penalties and the failure to expel Bonazzoli. On the three penalties, there is nothing to complain about, other than the football issue that the Sampdoria striker gave to Donati».

Let’s start from the penalties. The first was caused by Tachtsidis’ foul on Jankto. Correct Rocchi’s decision?
«Tachtsidis is of incredible naivety. Jankto blew the ball out of the area. An ingenuity that is not even seen on the fields of amateurs. The ball is coming out of the area, you can’t make such a mistake. The rigor is very clear».

The second shot from the spot is caused by Thorsby’s entry on Saponara. Correct the evaluation of the race director?
«Thorsby’s naivety is perhaps worse than that of Tachtsidis. He had plenty of time to reason, instead he entered tackle with a high foot. When you’re in full control of the ball, you can’t make such a mistake. It’s not even a gesture from Thorsby, who is generally a fair player. And it’s not even a question of a hammer foot. If you get into tackle slipped the ball you take it, but you also take everything else. He had plenty of time to do what he wanted. Net penalty»

The third episode is the one that has aroused perhaps more chatter. Paz’s foul against Depaoli is not so evident.
«Live is an immediate penalty kick. Reviewing it, one realizes that there is contact between the two players. It is certainly the least clear of the three, but it is rigor».

We come to Bonazzoli’s football in Donati which, chronologically, comes before the three episodes. Did Rocchi’s decision save Sampdoria?
«There is a premise to make, when it happened Rocchi was covered and could not see the dynamics. In front he had a Lecce player and the shapes of Bonazzoli and Donati. The non-protests and the immediate apology of the attacker from Sampdoria meant that he did not intervene. Here the error belongs to the Var who had to intervene. Such a gesture is from a direct red card and probably two days of disqualification. It is of an incredible naivety. In the race of life, making such a gesture is absurd. Intervention from behind, normal foul, which can be seen on all playing fields and already sanctioned by the referee. Bonazzoli reacts with this paw? Maybe he didn’t even want to do it, I’m not investigating his intentions. But the images are unequivocal. There is little room for interpretation. A naivety that could cost Sampdoria dear, in the game of life».
