Serious traffic accident on Sunday on the West Autobahn near Melk: A Mazda handlebar hit the concrete baffle with full force and was caught in the wreck.
A picture of the destruction presented itself to the emergency services of the Melk fire brigade, rescue and police on the west motorway towards Salzburg: A car driver had lost control of his vehicle at the Melk driveway. The Mazda crashed into a concrete baffle, the car was subsequently thrown across the highway.
The handlebar was trapped in the deformed wreck and had to be released by the volunteer fire department using a hydraulic rescue device.
With a so-called spineboard (Note: Means for rescuing injured persons, where an injury to the spine cannot be excluded) the seriously injured was lifted out of the vehicle (had a Dutch registration) and finally, accompanied by an emergency doctor, brought to the Sankt Pölten University Hospital.
