Hamburg City Hall: the man apparently wanted to go to Tschentscher with a gun NDR.de – News

As of: 01/24/2023 7:53 p.m

Incident in Hamburg City Hall: As has only now become known, an apparently armed man tried to get to Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) on Friday. When he found out that Tschentscher wasn’t in town hall, he left. Now the search is on for the unknown.

The man is said to have asked an employee in the hall of the town hall late on Friday evening for the mayor. When she explained that Tschentscher was not there and that he could try again on Monday, the stranger left. Then he should have turned around again. At that moment, the city hall employee claims to have seen a weapon, according to police spokeswoman Sandra Levgrün. However, there was no specific threat. It is also unclear what exactly the man wanted from the mayor.

State security determined

Covert measures have been underway since the weekend to identify the stranger – the police did not say which they are for tactical reasons. Since no video recordings are stored in the town hall foyer, an identikit of the man was also made. This is used internally to search for the unknown. State security is investigating.

The “Hamburger Abendblatt” first reported on the incident and spoke of an attempted attack. The police would not confirm that. “We don’t even know for sure whether the man was actually carrying a gun,” spokeswoman Sandra Levgrün told NDR 90.3.
