Guide to live the ‘Night of the books’ in Madrid

A night to enjoy the adventure of books, a night to meet the best contemporary authors, a night to not sleep but to dream. October 1st ‘The Night of the Books’ arrives.

A night that will start before the sun goes down, with many activities spread out throughout the Madrid geography. Literary dialogues, concerts, dramatized readings … etc, all for all lovers of literature, young and old, with the participation of institutions, bookstores, libraries … etc and about 600 authors.

The night of the most ‘avant-garde’ Books arrives on October 1 in Madrid

This year the ‘Night of the Books’ pays tribute to the ‘ultraist’ writers, those who a hundred years ago founded the magazine “Ultra” and turned Madrid into the capital of the avant-garde: Luis Buñuel, Gerardo Diego, Rosa Chacel, González-Ruano and Jorge Luis Borges.

There are many stages and more than 400 activities. We review the most interesting.

There are activities throughout the Community of Madrid and the districts. And you cannot miss the most emblematic places of the capital: The Royal Post Office, the Centro Centro, the National Library, the Instituto Cervantes or the Real Casa de Postas, where activities for children in the afternoon and interactive theater at night.

AND two ‘urban routes’, one of them through a selection of galleries in Madrid and the other a historical and literary journey from the early 1940s to the late 1960s starting from the centenary of Carmen Laforet

The night of books will also be present in the online world with digital meetings in which great Latin American figures participate.

The meetings begin on Tuesday, September 28 with a meeting between Karina Sainz Borgo y Jorge Volpi (7:30 p.m.) On Wednesday 29 it will be the turn of Piedad Bonnett and Gioconda Belli (19:00) and Thursday 30 of Mariana Enriquez and Alejandro Zamba (19: 00h)

The Plaza de Pontejos is another of the fundamental stages of the Night of the Books. A place where children will enjoy a lot with activities such as ‘The blank sheet’, a collaborative story created by children (5:00 p.m.) or a poetic improvisation for them at 6:30 p.m.

At 8:00 p.m. Interactive theater to celebrate the centenary of Patricia Highsmith with a representation of ‘Strangers on a train’ in which viewers will also be protagonists
