Guadalupana party in Charlotte changes due to COVID-19

On the same night that North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s new curfew went into effect, a Charlotte church held its annual 24-hour celebration honoring its namesake: Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Religious services are one of the exceptions to Cooper’s rule. This means that places open between 10pm and 5am for religious reasons, such as churches, can remain open.

The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe traditionally holds the event at the Bojangles Coliseum. But due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was held in the church itself at one-third of normal capacity. All participants had to take their temperature and wear a mask to enter the temple. Tents with outdoor seating and projectors were also available. In addition, the scheduled events were broadcast online.
