The disqualification imposed on “Liepājas” football player Tiedenberg has been reduced

In March, the Ethics Commission of the LFF disqualified Tiedenberg for three months from participating in all competitions organized by the LFF for the insults he expressed in his correspondence with Guinea national basketball player Shannon Evans.

After examining the submissions of the football player and the club, the commission decided to reduce the disqualification previously imposed on the football player by one month. Starting from May 8 of this year, Tiedenberg is again eligible to participate in competitions organized by LFF.

After getting acquainted with the footballer’s additional explanations about what he had done, the LFF Ethics Committee found that the player has admitted his guilt, regrets it and has already served almost two months of the three-month suspension he was previously sentenced to.

At the same time, the Ethics Committee reminds that in cases of repeated racist expressions, there is a threat of harsher sanctions, including lifetime disqualification.

Evans, who was born in the United States, reportedly posted the ephemeral message on the social networking site Instagram in late February, which showed Tiedenberg’s correspondence with him. In it, the football player called the basketball players of this national team slaves and shamed them as representatives of the “totalizator country”, as well as wished them to “burn in hell”.

Tiedenberg later apologized for the things written from his profile, without indicating whether he had made the correspondence himself.

“Everyone who knows me knows that I respect all countries and people. I will not repeat these bad things again,” Tiedenberg said in a statement.

Midfielder Tīdenbergs has played one game for the Latvian national team.

Head coach Evans plays for the Spanish club Badalona “Joventut” and represents the national team of Guinea.
