Anti-Vannacci procession in Naples, clashes between protesters and police

Moments of tension shortly before the start of the presentation of the general’s book Roberto Vannacci, “Courage wins”, in Naples. A group of protesters in garrison in Piazza del Plebiscito attempted to force the police cordon in via Nazario Sauro where there was one lightening charge by the police. The protesters also threw balloons filled with water at the police present in riot gear. After a while i protesters they moved away and, amid shouts and slogans against the League’s candidate for the European elections, they headed towards the galleria Umberto I.

Il general who had ended up in the crosshairs of criticism for his extreme positions on politics and rights responded thus to those who contested him: «I don’t understand why they don’t come to the room in peace, I’m for civil confrontation, I would listen to them and discuss with them. And in any case, no, I don’t fear for my safety and I don’t feel surrounded». Then he added: «I thank the protesters, I invite them to come to this room to express their ideas, I have never shied away from confrontation. But this invitation I make never succeeds. I don’t feel surrounded but I am concerned about the context that has been created».
