Gros van Sandd staff did not come to PostNL: “I refused the offer” NOW

Fewer than half of the mail deliverers from the postal company Sandd will go to PostNL, it was announced on Thursday. The companies will continue together as of 1 February, but not all Sandd employees can discuss this. Only a quarter of the nearly thirteen thousand employees who were offered a job at PostNL accepted this. What is this about? Several people working for Sandd responded to NUjij, the NU.nl discussion platform.

‘I don’t like working on Saturdays’

Joop Kranen and his partner both worked for Sandd and did not go to PostNL. “After working for ten years, my contract expired on January 2. Then I was offered a new contract for six months at PostNL, but I refused.”

The reason is that Cranes should also work on Saturdays. “I don’t like that. I was allowed to give days to PostNL on which I want to work, but they deviate from it. Moreover, the hours in which you can deliver are less flexible.”

A PostNL spokesperson said that the company took the wishes of the delivery staff into account as much as possible. “Sometimes it is inevitable that deliverers also have to get started on days that they do not prefer. Where people really get into trouble, we are always willing to look again.”

Too low reimbursement

Kranen also believes that Sandd has paid a lower reimbursement than promised. “The amount of the allowance was determined on the basis of the number of hours that you worked in a specific period. As a result, colleagues started working more during that period. By calculating this over another period, we received 900 euros too little.”

After a lot of pain and effort, Joop still received this amount. “Whether others have also received the money they are entitled to, I don’t know.”

PostNL confirms that the period was indeed shifted, but that this should not make a difference for most. “Employees who ring the bell and with whom it matters a lot, we still get credit afterwards.”

Franchise personnel fall between two stools

On Friday, after years of service, Marloes * was the last to post in her regular neighborhood. Although she is free to apply for a job at PostNL, she received no offer and no reimbursement. “I was employed by Herling Strijdhorst, a franchise that distributes the mail for Sandd. At the end of 2019, I was told by post that the work would definitively cease. I have never heard anything from Sandd.”

*Marloes is a fictitious name. Her real name is known to the editors.

“I’m improving at PostNL”

Yet there is also a positive sound from former Sandd employees. For example, Ellen Vaagse did go to PostNL and she believes that she has been well informed and treated. She also sees positive consequences. “Sandd used standard hours. This means that you get paid for an x number of hours per neighborhood; even though it took more time in practice. PostNL pays out the hours actually worked. In that respect, I am improving.”
