There are 1,210 new cases of coronavirus at 5 pm on Sunday 23 August. The total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic thus rises to 259,345 units, for a day-on-day increase of + 0.47%. In the last 24 hours there have been 7 deaths (+0.02), following which the total figure reaches 35,437. The healed are then 267 (+ 0.13%). The currently positive in Italy are 18,438, + 5.34% compared to Saturday. The hospitalized with symptoms are 971 (+ 5.08%), of which 69 in intensive care, five more than on Saturday. The people subjected to home isolation measures are 17,398, + 0.53% day on day. This is the picture that emerges from the daily report of the Civil Protection prepared on the basis of 67,371 swabs carried out, compared to the overall 77,674 on Saturday.
Among the regions, the leadership of daily infections returns to Lombardy (239), followed by Lazio (184), Veneto (145), Campania (138) and Emilia Romagna (127). Then we find Sardinia (81), Tuscany (59) and Piedmont (42). The remaining regions present less than 40 new infections.

In Lombardy 239 cases and 4 deaths
Coronavirus cases in Lombardy continue to increase and have returned to exceed 200: in fact, 239 new positives with 13,663 swabs carried out. On Saturday there were 185 with 12,957 tampons. There are 4 new deaths for a total of 16,856 deaths in the region since the beginning of the pandemic. The admissions in intensive care (14) and in other wards (148) are stable. After the zero cases on Saturday, 32 new cases are infected in Bergamo, while they continue to grow in Milan (89 of which 50 in Milan city) and Brescia (46).
Lazio, 184 positives and one death
In Lazio there are 184 cases and one death. Of these 184 cases, 60% are return links, while those with links from Sardinia decrease (35%). The Lazio Region Health Councilor Alessio D’Amato stresses that “cases are decreasing compared to Saturday and it is even more significant given the record number of swabs carried out in the last 24 hours. Overtime work of our healthcare professionals and access records to drive-in system tightness of Coronet laboratories, effective and efficient network. We are ready for reciprocity with Sardinia to guarantee safety: this is the common goal. Any positive shipments to Sardinia must be transferred to the mainland in a protected manner ».
Veneto, 145 new cases
There are 145 more cases of positive swab detected in Veneto in the last 24 hours according to the data provided by the Region. No new deaths_ thus there are 2,104 deaths from pandemic. Individuals in isolation drop by 223 units. There are 104 more people, however, in home isolation.
