Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and PSG defender Mitchel Bakker have made it to the final candidate list for the Golden Boy award, an annual election for the best football player under 21.
Sergiño Dest, who recently switched from Ajax to FC Barcelona, has also been nominated by organizer Tuttosport, an Italian newspaper. He has a Dutch passport, but comes out for the American national team.
De Ligt and Van der Vaart former winners
Matthijs de Ligt won the prize in 2018 and Rafael van der Vaart was the first winner in 2003. Players such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Wayne Rooney also won the award at the start of their career.
