Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The Ministry of Social Affairs has complained about the continuing shortage of corona vaccine in the southwest. “There was a statement that there would be so much vaccine in May that we would hardly know what to do with it,” said Layla Distler, head of the vaccination department at the Ministry of Social Affairs, in an interview with the “Badische Zeitung” (Tuesday) in relation to one Statement by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU).

The vaccination centers have therefore planned with full capacity. Most of the vaccine is now needed for the second vaccinations and fewer appointments can be made for the first vaccination, according to Distler. Doctors in private practice also indicated that they could vaccinate more. There, too, there is an increasing number of secondary vaccinations. According to Distler, the vaccine supplies for the third quarter of the year are currently being negotiated.

The staff responsible for corona vaccinations in the ministry has meanwhile been greatly expanded. From the initial three people, 60 are now at the vaccination department, who also provide support from other institutions, said Distler. At the moment vaccination campaigns are planned in socially disadvantaged areas. In addition, Distler and her team worked on implementing the federal plan that all students over the age of twelve should receive at least one primary vaccination until after the summer vacation. “We were given the prospect of an additional vaccine for this,” said Distler.
