Colonel Alexei Safonov, officer of the local traffic police in Stavropol, has been arrested along with six other colleagues on suspicion of corruption. They would have pocketed at least 19 million rubles (that is about 220,000 euros) in exchange for permits for grain transports.

If found guilty, Safonov faces 15 years in prison.
