God damn it… It turns out that this is the culprit of expensive cooking oil

Jakarta

Price cooking oil it’s been a headache lately. The reason is, one of these staples is expensive because the price soars.

For example, according to the Jakarta Food Information data owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the average price of cooking oil (yellow/bulk) as of Friday (12/11) reached Rp. 18,711/kilogram (kg). The highest price in the West Tebet Market is Rp. 20,000/kg, and the lowest is at the Cempaka Putih Market, which is Rp. 15 thousand/kilogram.

The government also revealed a series of reasons for the price cooking oil expensive. The Director General of Domestic Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Oke Nurwan, said that the increase in cooking oil prices was due to various obstacles in various countries which spurred international prices to also rise.

“Canada and Argentina, as suppliers of Canola Oil, experienced crop disruptions so that their production fell about 7% and caused a decline in world supply,” he told detikcom, Friday (11/05/2021).

Not only that, Malaysia’s crude palm oil (CPO) production fell by around 8%. The trigger is due to the shortage of workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The energy crisis in several countries, India, China, Europe, has shifted to bioenergy, including biodiesel. High logistics costs (due to the pandemic) due to the decrease in shipping frequency so that space for transport ships is limited also has an impact on the scarcity of international containers,” he continued.

The government also asks producers to continue producing bulk cooking oil and simple packaged cooking oil, at least until the national religious holidays (HBKN) Christmas and New Year 2022.

Oke Nurwan emphasized that the move was an effort to maintain the supply and price of cooking oil in the country.

“We ask both associations and palm cooking oil producers to continue to produce bulk cooking oil and simple packaged cooking oil to maintain domestic supply at affordable prices at least until Christmas and New Year 2022,” said Oke.
