A painting by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) sold for more than 70 million dollars (around 60 million euros) at the traditional autumn auctions in New York. The work “Cabanes de bois parmi les oliviers et cyprès”, created in 1889, was finally auctioned for 71.35 million after a five-minute competition between eleven bidders, the auction house Christie’s announced on Friday. The highest bidder wants to remain anonymous.

- Two other paintings by van Gogh were also auctioned for high sums: The 1890 “Jeune homme au bleuet”, originally estimated at around 5 million dollars, brought around 47 million dollars, and “Meules de blé” around 36 million.
In addition, a work by the French painter Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) – “L’Estaque aux toits rouges” – was auctioned for around $ 55 million. All in all, Christie’s said it sold art for around $ 750 million at Thursday’s auction.
