GNR launches ‘manhunt’ in Braga to capture fugitive registered

A 33-year-old man, of Chinese nationality, escaped with minor injuries from a car accident, on Thursday evening, in the access to the highway, in Braga.

The driver was going in the North – South direction when he lost control of the IVECO freight van, ending up hitting the A3 central separators, in the toll access section.

The van ended up scraping the separators for a few meters, eventually tipping over in a difficult position for rescuers, who took about four hours to remove the driver.

Trapped by the legs, the man was always accompanied by the medical team of VMER in Barcelos, while members of the Sapadores de Braga Fire Company cut the van in order to extract the victim without causing injuries.

The team that was initially carrying out the work ended up being replaced by another, around 21:30, with elements of the night shift, who entered the service at 20:00. The alert was given at 19:07.

And there were few injuries, when, shortly after 10:30 pm, he finally managed to get out of the vehicle to be stabilized by the firefighters and transported to the local hospital.

He ended up suffering injuries to his feet and legs, but nothing serious, and he should be discharged in the next few hours. A source from the rescuers explained that “the position of the vehicle” made the entire operation difficult.

The van was transporting food items to Aveiro when it suffered the accident. Another van from the same company ended up arriving at the accident site to transfer the cargo.

Despite the work on the road, there was no record of queues, with the leftmost lane being completely cleared for road circulation.
