Getting to know Starlink, Elon Musk’s Internet Satellite Entering Indonesia

KOMPAS.com – Boss’s Starlink Satellite SpaceX Elon Musk will enter Indonesia.

Starlink entered Indonesia through the Non-Geostationary Special Satellite Anchoring Rights (NGSO) obtained by PT Telkom Satellite Indonesia (Telkomsat).

Minister of Communication and Information Johny Plate as quoted from Kompas.com June 10, 2022 said, the capacity of this Starlink satellite will be used for services backhaul which will be used for the needs of the Telkom group.

He emphasized that there was no retail sale right to Starlink.

“The NGSO’s Special Anchoring Rights must meet the requirements stipulated by the law, including reciprocal rights and will be evaluated every year,” said Johnny.

Later, the capacity of the Starlink satellite will be used to connect fiber optic services in places that are difficult to build.

Quoted from the page HowToGeekStarlink is part of SpaceX which provides satellite internet.

Starlink is said to offer high-speed broadband connectivity.

The existence of Starlink initially started by providing internet access to people in the United States.

But now, the company owned by Elon Musk has expanded its availability in several regions of the world.

The company even targets to provide services that cover the whole world.

Starlink, provides its services primarily by targeting consumers who live in remote areas although in the US it is also present in the city center.

So how does the Starlink Satellite work?

A number of things that distinguish Starlink from other satellite internet providers are its satellite orbits.

In general, the satellite orbits used by other satellite internet providers are in geostationary orbits about 35,000 km from the earth.

Being in this orbit allows the satellite to have a wide range.

However, such satellites have slow connectivity and high latency.

Meanwhile, Starlink uses a constellation of satellites low-earth (LEO) with a distance of about 550 km.

Starlink’s satellite coverage is relatively small, but due to its presence in low orbit, data travel time to and from users is also much lower than that of regular satellite internet services.

Latency is also much lower.

So then, Starlink offers faster internet speeds than other satellite providers.

2,000 satellites

In April 2022, Starlink launched more than 2,000 satellites.

The company targets to have as many as 42,000 satellites in earth orbit that will deliver the internet to all corners of the world.
