Many airlines are currently canceling flights because there is a lack of staff at airports. This is really annoying for vacationers, because in many cases the trip is canceled and they are initially left with the cost of the flight tickets. Here we show you what to send to your airline to get your money back.

Travel Experts Recommend: Get Your Money Back!

RTL travel expert Ralf Benkö advises contacting the airline first: “If I can’t just rebook on another flight, I should contact the airline and describe my own problem,” recommends the travel expert. It is important to state exactly by when you have to get an answer. That means setting a specific deadline.

Reading tip: Read here what rights you have as a holidaymaker in the event of canceled flights and what you should bear in mind shortly before your flight.

Lawyer Michael Pietsch recommends reclaiming the ticket price if your own flight has been cancelled: “You definitely have the right to have your flight price reimbursed,” explains the expert in an interview with RTL.

How to use our refund template:

  1. Copy the text from the document into a Word document on your computer.
  2. Replace all statements in brackets with your personal information.
  3. Send the completed document to your airline – preferably by registered mail.

Important:

This document is only valid if you have booked the flight individually and not as part of a package holiday. In that case, you should contact your tour operator.

Important NOTE:

According to the Air Passenger Rights Ordinance, airlines must reimburse the ticket price for canceled flights. In addition, some travelers may also be entitled to compensation. You can easily calculate how high this is and whether you are even entitled to compensation, for example with the “Flugärger” app from the NRW consumer advice center. Alternatively, the ADAC shows on its website how you can easily see what level of compensation is possible for you.

You can also check the airline’s website: many airlines have simple templates through which affected travelers can assert their rights.
