Debby, a young 20-year-old resident of Oudenburg (West Flanders), traveled to Ostend last Friday with a friend to enjoy the sun. But his short stint on the beach, near the famous Ostend casino, went rather badly: “We stayed there between an hour and a half and two hours, but we didn’t stop approaching us,” explains the young woman at Laatste Nieuws. In total, according to him, they were arrested … nine times!
The two young women first dealt with a group of young people, who asked them if they were talking and if they would give their Snapchat account. If Debby replied that she was not interested, and that she already had a boyfriend, that was not what held back the group of young people.
The tension is growing
Indeed, soon after, one of the individuals came to sit right behind her. The tension then increased, and the insults towards the two young women started to rain, explains Debby. “Get out of there, leave my towel,” repeated the two young women several times. One of the young men then stood up: “Stop shouting,” he said, before being pushed back, “stop touching me.” Meanwhile, Debby had pulled out her smartphone and started filming the scene, while threatening to call the police.
Finally, an employee of the beach bar located nearby came to see if the two young women were fine. The incident was over, but Debby explained to our colleagues that, just before the facts, she and her friend had already been arrested by other groups of young people. And may after the incident, rebelote: “A man in his twenties came to tell me that I had a good style and asked me for my number. And when I refused, he just said “too bad, I’m going to try someone else’s house.”
No complaints
If the young woman hesitated for a long time to publish the images on the canvas, she finally decided to do it: “It is ultimately good that it is filmed, so that young people can see what is really going on […] I want to feel safe as a young woman. Both in the street, on the beach, and when I go out … Is a “no” not clear enough? “, She laments on Twitter.
Informed of the facts, the bourgmestre of Ostende Bart Tommelein recalled that Debby could / should have gone to the police station immediately after the facts.
