Gerontologist named turning points in human aging – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Experts identify three so-called “critical” ages in the life of an adult from a biological point of view.

As explained kp.ru Gerontologist, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences Alexei Moskalev, the first such “turning point” can be considered the 45th anniversary. This age is characterized by the fact that “in general, the realization of the reproductive function is completed.” And at about 60 years, cell division and tissue regeneration slows down. This can affect the maintenance of vital body functions. People of this age suffer on average from three chronic diseases.

The third “turning point” in a person’s life may be the 75th anniversary. A person of this age suffers from the extracellular matrix, which forms the basis of connective tissue to support cells and is involved in the transfer of chemicals. Protective barriers stop working to the required extent, problems begin with various organs, including the brain, and the number of chronic diseases increases. On average, there are seven of them.

But, as the expert clarifies, we are talking about averaged data. The situation is influenced, for example, by diet, physical activity, ecology, stress levels and the ability to cope with it. Early diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases is also an important factor. At the same time, serious health problems for Russians begin earlier than for Europeans.

Residents of Russia, according to Alexei Moskalev, lack a culture of healthy eating, the availability of fitness rooms and diagnostic centers, as well as awareness of the negative impact of bad habits.

“The effectiveness of preventive measures, including at the state level, contributes to professional longevity and saves huge funds. Prevention is the best treatment,” the expert emphasizes.
