Germany’s Bundestag Plans to Modernize Taurus Cruise Missiles Amid Controversy

The Bundestag plans to modernize all Taurus cruise missiles in Germany’s arsenal.

According to The world there are a total of about 600 such systems, but half of them have expired certificates. According to them, these rockets are subject to major repairs. The German Defense Ministry declined to comment.

Journalists have learned that leading European missile systems developer and manufacturer MBDA, which assembles Taurus missiles in Bavaria, may qualify for the contract.

The company previously denied claims by Social Democratic Party politician Johannes Arlt that the transfer of missiles to Ukraine would threaten Germany’s defense capability. MBDA has announced that it can resume production of the Taurus as soon as possible.

As is known, the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly called on Berlin to make a decision on the transfer of long-range missiles to the Ukrainian armed forces. Britain and France have already taken this step.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that the Ukrainian army will use the Taurus only within its borders. German politicians and diplomats also contacted the German authorities.

However, Chancellor Olaf Scholz refused to transfer the missiles to Ukraine. He explains this by the fact that they can reach objects in Moscow.
