Germany: public mask required in public Abroad

In most federal states, the obligation applies immediately on Monday, Schleswig-Holstein is the last to join on Wednesday. In some states such as Saxony and Thuringia, residents had already had to wear a mouth mask since last week. Incidentally, the airways do not necessarily have to be covered by a mask. A scarf or cloth is also allowed. The point is that no droplets can be released, because it can contain the corona virus.

The sanctions for those who evade the mask obligation vary greatly from state to state. Bavaria is the strictest: someone without a mask will be fined 150 euros and retailers who do not give their employees a mask will be fined 5000 euros. In North Rhine-Westphalia, retailers may refuse entry to customers without a mask. There are no sanctions in Berlin.

Experts disagree whether wearing a mouth mask makes sense. For example, the World Health Organization and the Red Cross say that incorrectly wearing a mask entails more risk of infection. They continue to hammer on washing hands often and keep a good distance.
