In Israel, a sixteen-year-old girl was gang-raped at a holiday resort in the south of the country, Eilat. Recordings from hotel cameras confirm that about 30 men had to wait in front of one of the rooms to rape a girl. The case caused a special stir on Thursday after the release of details of testimony indicating that some 30 men were queuing outside the hotel room of an intoxicated girl in Eilat, waiting their turn to rape her. This was confirmed by recordings from hotel cameras secured by the police.

According to Israeli media reports, in early August the teenager went to Eilat with a friend and met with a group of his friends there. The group went out for a drink together.

Two detained suspects

The teenager informed the police on August 14. The first suspect, a 27-year-old resident of Hadera, was arrested Wednesday after correspondence between him and the victim revealed that there was video documentation of the alleged rape. A second suspect, also a 27-year-old from Hadera, was arrested on Thursday morning.

A specially appointed task force of 20 investigators is reviewing camera footage to identify all suspects, hoping to arrest and question them later, the Times of Israel reported. According to Keshet 12, the police assume that some men raped the girl, while others stood by and watched or filmed the incident.

The victim’s data was leaked to social media – Israeli media reported on Friday, incl. “Israel Hajom” and the Walla portal! – which caused a wave of Internet hatred directed at her. Out of concern for the girl’s safety, the police decided to strengthen the security around her house in Ashkelon.
