Germany arrests man who sent nuclear equipment to Iran

BERLINPolice German arrested a German-Iranian man suspected of exporting equipment for use in Iran’s nuclear and missile programs in violation of European Union (EU) sanctions.

Germany’s federal prosecutor revealed the arrests on Wednesday (15/9/2021)

Police searched 11 locations, including apartments and offices in the states of Hamburg, Schleswig Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia in connection with the suspect,” the statement said.

The suspect, identified only as Alexander J, has delivered $1.3 million worth of equipment to an Iranian whose company in Iran is blacklisted by the European Union (EU) as a cover for procuring equipment for its nuclear and missile programs.

Germany’s attorney general said the suspect was approached in 2018 and 2019 for the procurement of laboratory equipment.

He shipped two spectrometers purchased for $196,250 to Iran in January 2020, and six months later shipped two others, purchased for $458,705.
