You repeat my basic thesis of unification, but it does not work for you. There is no parliament or government because of you, the professor accused
Presidential candidate Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov accused his opponent Rumen Radev of lack of courage.
He made a video message to the head of state playing for a second term, after Radev did not accept his invitation for a debate in Haskovo, where they were both at the same time. Radev then answered him in absentia hours later – he recommended to the professor to publicly deny “the lies and manipulations of former Prime Minister Borissov.” And he promised to debate with him before a run-off.
… Mr. Radev, your recommendation not to repeat the words of Boyko Borissov is strange, because I have never repeated foreign words. I am a philologist, I know the Bulgarian language well, I do not lack ideas, so I do not have to memorize what other people have written, Gerdjikov replied, hinting that the president did not write his own speeches. And he paid attention to him:
When you say that it is extremely important to have a working parliament and government, you are repeating my main thesis, but it does not suit you, because it is your main responsibility not to have a working parliament and a regular government. When Mrs. Yotova calls you a unifier, we remember the paradoxical slogan “Freedom is slavery” from Orwell’s book. You cannot be a unifier, because it is your responsibility to separate the Bulgarian citizens.
According to him, Radev is trying to discredit him through a personal vendetta with Borisov. To blame me for the qualities or actions of other people is a sign of helplessness – the presidential election is a majority and Bulgarian citizens expect to see your qualities and mine, to compare my vision of the future and yours, not to talk to them about other political figures, Gerdjikov explained.
He added that Radev had only talked about judicial reform in the last year, when he came into conflict with the chief prosecutor, and accused him of missing an opportunity to submit proposals for constitutional changes.
As part of the political class against which people are rising, you joined a protest that was against you. You have achieved the impossible – you have led the protest against yourself. That is why you are avoiding the answer to the question of what you have achieved as President in the last 5 years. What we see at the end of your term is a severe political crisis that is preventing us from dealing with the health, price and now economic crisis, says Prof. Gerdjikov. And through his protest Radev pursued a personal goal – to be re-elected.
If you are a really strong president who can make bold decisions, finally make those bold decisions. If necessary, change ministers, propose measures to overcome the critical situation, do something, because in the health crisis the statistics reported the highest number of deaths with COVID, and the price crisis has already hit business and thousands of families severely. Do something before it goes bankrupt, high inflation and unemployment growth, Radev challenged the rector of Sofia University and called for the unification of the citizens around topics on which the society has a consensus.
