Watch the World! Xi Jinping Warning ‘Cold War’ Asia Pacific

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chinese President Xi Jinping suddenly warned the world about the ‘Cold War’ in the Asia Pacific. He said this in the middle of the ongoing Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) business conference.

His statement was published when the country’s relations with the United States (US) were heated over Taiwan. So far, China does not recognize Taiwan’s independence and considers the territory its province.

“Attempts to harden ideology or form “small circles” on geo-political grounds are doomed to failure,” he was quoted as saying AFP, Thursday (11/11/2021).

“The Asia -Pacific region cannot and should not repeat itself in the confrontation and division of the Cold War era.”

Besides Taiwan, it is known that China is also hot with the US regarding the South China Sea (SCS), which is rich in resources and passes through trillions of dollars of world trade every year. The US rejects China’s claims with its “freedom of navigation” campaign.

China itself has branded nearly 90% of the South China Sea as its territory with the concept of the nine-dash line. This makes the Panda Country in tension with ASEAN countries including Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, on a different occasion yesterday, Xi Jinping reportedly gave the latest message to US President Joe Biden. He used the narrative that the US and China “respect each other for the sake of continued cooperation” between the two.

“Both countries will benefit from cooperation and lose in confrontation,” Xi said in a letter released by the Chinese embassy in Washington. CNBC International.

“Cooperation is the only right choice.”

Xi also said that China wants to work with the US to address regional and international issues as well as global challenges. The two countries, he said, need to manage differences well for a while, in order to bring China-US relations back on the right track.

“With a healthy and stable development,” he stressed.

Washington and Beijing have also heated up in recent years over trade. Biden’s predecessor, former President Donald Trump, began to take a tough stance on China, starting with trade.

Trump imposed tariffs on billions of dollars worth of imports from China, and blacklisted several Chinese technology companies. In the Biden era, the US still maintains Trump’s tough position in which Biden has several times joined forces with his allies to pressure Beijing.
