Gas storage in the Austrian Haidach

The underground gas storage facility at Heidach near Salzburg is the second largest in Central Europe. It can hold a quarter of Austria’s annual gas supply.

The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom is not filling the largest underground gas storage facility in the Austrian Haidach with gas. Because of this, the concern may lose it. Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said this after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrinform on Saturday, May 28th.

“As for the issue of gas, it was raised by Putin – that all deliveries will be fully carried out. I pointed out to him that if Gazprom does not use the storage in Gaidakh, it will lose it, and it will be transferred to the use of other suppliers,” Negammer said.

The underground gas storage facility at Heidach near Salzburg is the second largest in Central Europe. It can hold a quarter of Austria’s annual gas supply.

According to Austrian media, the storage facility, owned by the Russian company Gazprom, is still empty. At the same time, there should be stored a strategic reserve needed by Austria in the event of a possible stoppage of gas supplies.

Previously Germany took away the country’s largest UGS facility from Gazprom Reden with a volume of 4 billion cubic meters. Then in Russia they complained about the “forced” filling of this storage with gas.
