Garbage along the railways in Mangistau: is it being cleaned up?

news-id-116673" style="display:inline;">The authors of the complaint more than once had to travel along the route Aktobe-Atyrau, Atyrau-Mangistau, Mangistau-Astana, Mangistau-Almaty. Every time they observe along the entire route along the railway that the amount of garbage noticeably increases – plastic and glass bottles, cans, plastic bags, which are thrown away by passengers and conductors of passing trains. Some of this garbage, according to travelers, is carried by the winds throughout Ustyurt, Betpak-Dala and other picturesque places of our country.

– What happens to people’s consciousness? Love for the Motherland is manifested not in luxury, not in empty promises, not in the expectation that someone will create “Zhana Kazakhstan” for us, but in changing our consciousness, in our actions. Why don’t families, schools, and universities teach such fundamental things? Oddly enough, this problem is practically not covered, local residents say.

The profit for transporting passengers and goods by rail, people note, is received by KTZ and the companies servicing the sections.

Garbage along the railways in Mangistau: is it being cleaned up?

– Why don’t KTZ and service companies hire employees to collect garbage along the entire railway? None of these companies have ever been seen collecting waste. Why don’t government bodies, in particular the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, pay attention to this problem? Isn’t it their responsibility to pollute our lands? Why don’t the legislative authorities pass appropriate laws obliging bottle and bag manufacturers to make and import only biodegradable containers? – local travelers asked questions.

The KTZ press service noted that railway workers in the Mangistau region regularly carry out environmental measures to clean the right-of-way from garbage. They are removing tons of garbage from the area along the highway. Every spring, a traditional environmental month and weekly clean-up days are held as additional measures to clean the areas of administrative buildings and rights-of-way.

– Train passengers and local residents do not always comply with sanitary rules and environmental legislation, leaving household waste along the railway track. We urge citizens not to throw garbage out of train windows and not to organize spontaneous landfills,” KTZ reported.
