FW-M: Quick Aid for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning (Ramersdorf)

Munich Fire Brigade

Munich (ots)

On Sunday evening, the control center in Augsburg asked the Munich fire brigade for help in rescuing a mother and her child with the help of the pressure chamber of the Ramersdorf fire station.

What happened? Carbon monoxide leaked in an apartment in the Donauwörth area. The two residents were seriously injured. The 27-year-old mother and her eight-year-old daughter only partially reacted. We had to act quickly. The next pressure chamber is located in the Ramersdorf fire station of the Munich professional fire brigade. Two helicopters then transported the patients to a Munich clinic. First aid was given there. The mother and daughter were then transported to the Ramersdorf fire station in two ambulances. Both were locked up there in the pressure chamber for a long time under medical supervision.

Worth knowing: In the case of carbon monoxide poisoning, as in this case, carbon monoxide binds more easily in the blood than oxygen and displaces it. The only thing that helps here is a pressure chamber blockage. Patients breathe pure oxygen, so the pressure in the closed room is higher than the ambient pressure outside.

The Munich fire brigade thanks the Augsburg fire brigade for the good cooperation!
