Fuss around Gers Pardoel and other well-known Dutch people who …

There has been a fuss among our northern neighbors now that several Dutch celebrities are calling on their fellow countrymen to ignore the government’s corona measures. Artists Gers Pardoel, Jebroer and Famke Louise, among others, are under fire because they have joined the hashtag #ikdoenietmeermee.

“This is no longer possible”, singer Gers Pardoel wrote on Instagram. “We stand for good public health, but the measures are rattling from all sides. Our elderly are forgotten, our economy is about to collapse, human behavior is being punished and what about the future of our children? ”

The fact that hip-hop artist and vlogster Famke Louise is also participating in the action is all the more remarkable. In the spring, the 21-year-old was used (and paid for) by the government for a campaign to inform young people about the importance of the corona rules. “This is progressive insight”, says Louise. “The longer we live in corona time in 2020, the more I am convinced that all measures and their consequences are worse than the disease.”

The # ikdoenietmeermee posts get thousands likes, but not everyone is happy with the action either. Many other celebrities have already expressed heavy criticism. “I find it terrifying, especially because those stars have such a wide reach,” said Dutch singer Merol on Studio Brussel on Tuesday. “There are so many stars in the Netherlands who suddenly start to believe in conspiracy theories and start sharing them, such as top model Doutzen Kroes and Josje van K3. They offer the plot in response. And I think that’s really so stupid … “

Sports journalist Jack van Gelder is also angry. “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” he writes on Twitter. “But if someone from this action group were to get corona, there should also be no claim for medical assistance.”

Dutch health workers and several politicians have also distanced themselves from the action. “Whether it is your favorite singer, a busy rapper or your brother, let them know that we understand that these are bad times for them, but a deadly virus is not a game that you can stop for a while,” says VVD’er Klaas Dijkhoff.
