Funding Initiative Elementary Education Vienna – An initiative of private kindergarten and after-school care providers in Vienna

Diakonie Bildung, Kinderfreunde Wien, Kinder in Wien (KIWI) and St. Nikolausstiftung

Vienna (OTS) Diakonia education, Child friends Vienna, Children in Vienna (KIWI) and St. Nicholas Foundation have signed up under the name “Funding initiative for elementary education Vienna“United to represent concerns and positions in the field of elementary education and institutional after-school care.

Elementary education and private providers in Vienna

Private sponsoring organizations In their function as educational institutions, they significantly shape the landscape of elementary education in Vienna. Over 67,000 children are cared for in private facilities.

Diakonie Bildung alone, Kinderfreunde Wien, Kinder in Wien (KIWI) and St. Nikolausstiftung form and care for a total of 28,000 children and together cover 30 percent of the elementary education and care needs in Vienna’s kindergartens and after-school care centers.

We want to actively shape the future of elementary education and advocate changes in the current framework.

As the four largest sponsors in Vienna, we will from now on formulate our demands on politics at state and federal level together and also speak out publicly. In our opinion, improvements must be made in the following areas so that we can continue to fulfill the educational mandate as elementary educational institutions in the future together with our employees in high quality.

In the future, we will jointly contribute our expertise to the following questions and formulate requirements for politics:

  • How do we deal with the shortage of skilled workers and how could the profession of elementary education become more attractive?
  • What does the optimal specialist-child-key look like and what is the maximum number of children in a group?
  • Which ideas of flexible support can there be in harmony with new working environments?
  • Which professionally qualified additional staff are required in the kindergartens and after-school care centers (e.g. social workers, special kindergarten pedagogues and psychologists)
  • Which Austria-wide minimum quality standards should there be?
  • How does the optimal financing of the elementary educational institution look like, using Vienna as an example?

It is our goal to bring in practical know-how and technical input in a targeted manner. Together with state and federal politics, we want to evaluate the current framework conditions and ensure the quality of the future in the field of elementary education and institutional after-school care in the long term. With this sponsoring initiative, we want to make our demands on politicians so that there can be quickly noticeable improvements in elementary education.
