Frequent Nausea? Follow these tips to help prevent and reduce it

RIAU24.COM Nauseous is an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach that makes you feel like you are going to throw up.

Nausea can be triggered by viruses, digestive conditions, pregnancy, or even bad odors.
Often, it’s not clear why nausea strikes.

Whatever the reason, when you get hit, you’ll do almost anything to get rid of it.

Here are some things you can do to avoid and reduce feelings of nausea.

1. Don’t lie down immediately after eating

When you lie down after eating, gastric fluid can rise and increase overall nausea and discomfort, especially if you suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

2. Open the window

Have you ever felt nauseous in the car when you reflexively opened the window for a breath of fresh air? Well, there’s a reason.

Fresh air can relieve symptoms of nausea in many people, although it’s not clear why. It might get rid of the nauseating smell, or it might just help you focus on something other than the nausea.

3. Apply pressure

Acupressure is an alternative therapy that involves applying pressure to specific areas of the body to relieve various problems.

One literature review of 23 studies found that acupressure was effective for managing nausea in 16 of the 23 studies, particularly in pregnant people and those undergoing chemotherapy.

The pressure point for nausea is on the inside of your wrist, about 2.5 inches (6.4 centimeters) down. There is a common belief that pressing this pressure point for a few minutes can relieve nausea.
4. Meditate or take a deep breath

Meditation, the practice of focusing and calming the mind, can help relieve nausea.

A 2015 study of 86 pregnant women who experienced nausea and vomiting found that regular meditation significantly reduced nausea.

But more research is needed to definitively conclude whether meditation is beneficial for relieving nausea.

7. Stay hydrated

If you can’t eat or drink because of nausea, dehydration can occur. Conversely, nausea is also a symptom of dehydration.

When you feel nauseous, if possible, drink fluids. If plain water makes your stomach queasy, try drinking decaffeinated tea, or water with fresh fruit slices.
