The SC women beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 (1-0) on matchday 7 of the FLYERALARM women’s Bundesliga. A week after winning the point against VfL Wolfsburg, the SC women met fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt in the evening encounter on Friday. With cool temperatures in the Frankfurt stadium at Brentanobad, the sports club wanted to score again and take something countable on the drive home to Breisgau before the upcoming international break.

SC coach Daniel Kraus started with the same line-up as last weekend, in which Greta Stegemann again replaced the injured captain Rebecca Knaak. Frankfurt started the game with a lot of pressure in the direction of SC housing. However, the Freiburg defense was wide awake and switched brilliantly in the third minute of the game. After winning the ball, Sandra Starke and Giovanna Hoffmann ran a perfect counterattack. This was served by the completely free-standing Lina Bürger, who also ran with the team, who quickly took the 1-0 lead for the sports club from twelve meters.

The lightning start of the Freiburg women obviously took the wind out of the sails of the hosts. The sports club calmed down the game visibly and, for its part, repeatedly put needle pricks in the direction of Eintracht’s final wife Merle Frohms. This was also the case in the 13th minute, when Giovanna Hoffman penetrated the penalty area again and Frankfurt’s Verena Aschauer rescued the defeated Frohms on the line. Only after 20 minutes did the landlords put away the shock of the early leadership and now got back into the game better. In the 26th minute, the first exclamation mark from Frankfurt’s offensive department. A long ball from Virginia Kirchberger landed at the lightning-fast Laura Freilang. This placed across the better positioned Barbara Dunst. Their graduation did not pose any major problems for SC goalkeeper Lena Nuding. It stayed with the tight but well-deserved leadership for the sports club, with which it also went into the half-time break.

Frankfurt came out of the cabin highly motivated. But as in the first half, the well-organized defensive department of the sports club knew how to survive this pressure phase of Eintracht. In the 63rd minute, Frankfurt coach Arnautis brought in Lara Prasnikar, another striker, in order to achieve the longed-for equalizer. The more dangerous team, however, remained the sports club.

This was also the case when Giovanna Hoffmann pulled from 16 meters after a good long ball from Marie Müller (71), but Merle Frohms parried well. A quarter of an hour before the end of the encounter, the hosts threw everything forward again. Then there was excitement when Lara Parsnikar went down in the Freiburg penalty area in the 78th minute, but referee Karoline Wacker’s penalty whistle failed to materialize. Shortly before the end of the game, SC trainer Kraus brought Meret Wittje (79th) to reinforce the defensive. In stoppage time, the Frankfurt women demanded a penalty again – and this time they were awarded it.

After a Freiburg handball there was a penalty for Eintracht (90 + 4). Laura Freilang grabbed the ball, ran up and passed the ball a few centimeters to the left of the Freiburg housing. With a lot of passion and great running effort, the tactically excellent sports club defended the lead and celebrated the 1-0 away win at Eintracht Frankfurt that was ultimately deserved with the final whistle.

The sports club is continuing its upward trend and is currently in sixth place in the table with eight points. The next game of the SC women is on November 1st (1:30 p.m.). Head coach Daniel Kraus’ team will then face SC Opel Rüsselsheim in the second main round of the DFB Cup.

Voices for the game:
SC trainer Daniel Kraus: “We managed to build on the Wolfsburg game and defend it again very compactly. It was a passionate performance by the whole team. At the beginning of both halves, we had to survive a period of pressure from Eintracht, which we managed well. For us these are of course very important three points because we missed points against Leverkusen and Duisburg unnecessarily. We’re going home today with a big chest. “
