Freiburg, Breisgau and Ortenau are now Corona hotspots – southwest

Freiburg has passed the 50 mark in the 7-day incidence and is now considered a hotspot. The same applies to the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district and the Ortenau district. There are no further restrictions for the time being.

A new general decree with stricter rules has only been in effect in Freiburg since Saturday, for example with a mask requirement on the cathedral market and weekly markets. This could now be tightened again, because, according to the latest figures from the State Health Office from Tuesday evening, Freiburg now has a 7-day incidence of 58 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and week.

The city has exceeded the threshold of 50 – and is therefore a corona hotspot. The same goes for the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. On Tuesday, this had a value of 59.2 per 100,000 inhabitants and week. The Ortenau also exceeded the limit of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants with 51.7 on Tuesday – at least according to statistics from the local health department, which indicates that its figures are binding (the state health department reports a value of 48.7).

Stricter regulations should not exist in any of the districts – neither in Freiburg, in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, nor in Ortenau. In the Ortenau district, only a curfew at 11 p.m. for restaurants and a general ban on selling alcohol are under discussion, according to District Administrator Frank Scherer.

The Corona crisis team met in Freiburg on Tuesday morning. Mayor Martin Horn and University Hospital Manager Frederik Wenz will answer questions about how things will continue in the city on Wednesday, October 21, 10 a.m. in the BZ talk live.

The country declared pandemic level 3 over the weekend and ordered various measures. The hotspot classification enables the individual urban and rural districts to take further, more stringent measures, as, for example, Stuttgart has already done with a nocturnal alcohol ban. A night curfew would also be possible.

According to its own information, the Lörrach district broke the limit of 35 new infections per week and 100,000 inhabitants on Tuesday (37.1). The State Health Office puts the 7-day incidence at 34.1.

In the meantime, the health department in Freiburg is reaching its limits when it comes to tracking contacts due to the increasing number of cases in the city and district. On Monday it became known that five soldiers from the Franco-German Brigade from Müllheim are now helping in the health department to track contacts with corona infected people.

Six soldiers from the supply battalion from Müllheim are also deployed in Offenburg. The Jäger Battalion from Donaueschingen, which is also part of the brigade, is helping with 60 soldiers in Stuttgart to track contacts with corona infected people.
