François-Henri Pinault in Talks to Acquire CAA in $7 Billion Deal, According to Bloomberg

François-Henri Pinault, president of investment firm Groupe Artémis and chairman of luxury brand maker Kering, is in talks to acquire American sports agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA). About it informs Bloomberg. According to the publication, the deal will amount to at least $7 billion.

Kering owns brands such as Gucci and Bottega Veneta. Groupe Artémis is a family company founded in 1992 by François-Henri’s father, François Pinault. The holding has business interests in fashion, tourism, art, food, etc. In particular, Groupe Artémis controls a majority stake in the Christie auction house and the political weekly newspaper Le Point.

Pino is also active in the field of sports – it manages Rennes from the French Ligue 1 and is the largest shareholder of the world famous clothing brand Puma. In addition, Groupe Artémis owns an art collection of 3,000 works, including paintings by Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian and Jeff Koons. Groupe Artémis sales totaled $22 billion in 2022. Forbes evaluates The Pinault family’s net worth is $37 billion.

As for CAA, founded in 1975, last year Forbes once again named the company the most valuable sports agency. The total amount of CAA client contracts is $17.8 billion. Another $3.76 billion is in various non-gaming deals (usually sponsorship agreements). As a commission, the agency received about $971 million.

More than 2,900 athletes cooperate with the agency, including Manchester City footballer Jack Grealish, Pittsburgh Penguins hockey player Sidney Crosby, Phoenix Suns basketball player Devin Booker and many others.

There is also a player of the Russian Premier League (RPL) among the clients of the CAA – a graduate of Krasnodar Eduard Spertsyan, who is considered one of the most talented football players in the championship. His transfer fee equals 12 million euros. How told Spertsyan in an interview with Sports.ru, he was brought to the agency by the Polish midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, who played for Krasnodar in the fall of 2021.

According to 23-year-old Spertsyan, what impressed me the most in dealing with new partners was their professionalism. “The guys can create a zoom conference: we are going to six, they have a complete statistical alignment for me, cuts of game episodes. They say that while I lack action and accuracy in the final third. And that you need to hit more often, ”the midfielder noted in February 2023.

In addition to the representation business, CAA is the founder of Evolution Media Capital (EMC), a consulting firm that helps develop brands (including in the advertising market) for the National Hockey League (NHL), North American Major League Soccer (MLS) and the PGA Tour. Thus, in the event of successful negotiations to purchase CAA, Pino could become one of the most influential people in the sports industry.

At the same time, from the moment of its foundation and up to the present day, the agency’s specialization has been working with show business stars – actors and musicians, writers and designers. CAA’s clients include Hollywood legends such as Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Reese Witherspoon. The agency also represents Mexican actress Salma Hayek, wife of Francois-Henri Pinault.
