Four arrested in Seville for simulating violent robberies to collect insurance

Agents of the National Police have four people arrested in Sevillethree women and one man, between 21 and 46 years old, accused of simulation of crime and fraud, having reported being victims of alleged violent robberies occurred on public roads in which, supposedly, their personal belongings had been forcibly taken from them.

Investigators determined that the whistleblowers’ goal was to achieve a “financial compensation” by insurance that they had contracted, according to the Police in a statement.

In this sense, the investigation began when the complaints office of the Nervión District Police Station was received on June 21, the statement of a woman who claimed to have been the victim of a violent robbery by the ‘pull’ procedure suffered on Avenida de Andalucía, “where a man on a scooter had snatched her bag”.

The second of the events took place on June 24 when two of the detainees, a woman and her partner, went to the same police station to report that the woman had been the victim of a violent robbery occurred in the same area and with the same characteristics as the previous one, from which they had managed to snatch, among other personal effects, 1,400 euros in cash.

The last of the facts investigated was reported in Huelva, where the complainant claimed to have been attacked in the Santa Justa station in Seville where, apparently, two people on board a moped “had appropriated by force various effects, among which was a computer”.

Agents specialized in this type of crime began the investigation of the facts and after carrying out several steps, they verified that the alleged victims of the three violent robberies had, in fact, presented a false complaint “by pretending to have been attacked with the aim of obtaining economic compensation from the insurance they had contracted”.

For this reason, all of them have been arrested accused of simulation of a crime, for the complaint filed with the Police, and fraud, “by trying to fraudulently collect the insurance money.”

The National Police recalls that simulating a crime, giving false testimony or presenting a false accusation or complaint is classified in the penal code, which causes a delay in Justice, in addition to a serious impairment in the proper functioning of police services, to the detriment of the citizen. The law establishes penalties for these crimes ranging from a three-month fine to two years in prison.
