Former French Prime Minister Fillon and his wife found guilty in fictitious employment case

He former French Prime Minister François Fillon and his wife Penelope were found guilty Monday by a fictional jobs case that marred the presidential campaign of the right-wing candidate in 2017.

The Paris Correctional Court delivered its verdict, thus tacitly rejecting the defense’s request, which requested that the case be reopened, alleging pressure on prosecutors during the investigation.

Fillon was sentenced to five years in prison, two in firm, and his wife, Penelope, was sentenced to three years in prison pending.
