Foreigners Escape Rp. 540 Billion, Take Profit After Issues of Vaccines Disappear

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) ended the first trading session Tuesday (8/12/2020) on a positive track, after tasting negative territory in the morning following foreign investors’ profit taking.

The national stock exchange benchmark index rose 0.15% or 9.1 points to 5,939,871 with 220 stocks rising, 242 others falling and 155 remaining flat. With today’s strengthening, the JCI was recorded to have strengthened by 8.7% slast month.

Stock exchange transaction value was very high, reaching Rp. 11.3 trillion, with 19.4 billion shares changing hands, totaling more than 953,000 transactions. In comparison, yesterday’s transaction value was only Rp 9.3 trillion, with 15 billion shares changing hands 793,000 times.


Positive sentiment came from 1.2 million doses of Sinovac vaccine which were transported by plane belonging to the airline PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA) have arrived in the Homeland at 21.25 WIB on Sunday (6/12/2020). The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft landed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten.

However, there is no official claim that states how effective the Covid-19 vaccine made by Sinovac is. This differs from the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines which claim an efficacy rate of up to 90%.

This is what causes foreign investors choose to book net sale transactions (net sell) amounting to IDR 540 billion in the regular market. The following are the shares that are net sale by foreigners.

Trade data noted that today’s net sales were mostly made in PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmuer Tbk (ICBP) shares with a net sale of IDR 175 billion so that ICBP was forced to have corrected 1.01% to a price level of IDR 9,850 / unit.

Apart from ICBP, foreigners also sold shares consumer goods others such as the holding company of ICBP, namely PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF) which was sold by foreigners for Rp. 28 billion and PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk (UNVR) which was released by foreigners for Rp. 27 billion.

Apart from these three consumer goods issuers, the names of two other companies with large market cap are also listed, namely PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) and PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM), which have a net sale of Rp.66 billion and Rp.32 billion, respectively.
