The position of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development is vacant as of today, as the previous Minister Juris Pūce (AP) announced his resignation yesterday and the Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) accepted Pūce’s resignation without delay, inviting the HR to nominate a new candidate.

Pavluts told LETA that, taking into account Kariņš’s call, the party association would start internal discussions on this issue already today. At the same time, Pavluts did not comment on “About!” possible follow-up to the AP. The party will soon discuss this issue in accordance with the statutes and there will be no hesitation.

Pavluts also did not comment on the question of whether he could hold the position of minister left by Pūce. At the same time, the politician stated that he supports Pūce’s resignation after misleading the public.

It has already been reported that Pūce decided to resign from the post of minister after publicly lying, that he had not used or seriously asked the party members to arrange for him a parking pass for a deputy of the Riga City Council.

Māris Mičerevskis, a former member of Pūce’s party, stated that Pūce had asked him to provide a parking pass for a deputy of the Riga City Council, but Pūce justified that it was just a joke.

The next day, however, Pūce admitted that it was not a joke, and that he had lied and thus made a mistake, for which he is now ashamed.

“I sincerely apologize for my actions and I sincerely regret it. I have made a mistake in the parking lot of Riga municipality, I have really made a very unsuccessful choice. I have misled my colleagues and the Latvian society,” Pūce said when announcing his resignation.
