Football Coach Gets Seven and a Half Years in Prison for Sexual Assault on Young Players in Munich

Munich – Seven and a half years in prison for the football coach with the disgusting “doctor games”!

The soccer coach Giuseppe T. (47) was found guilty before the Munich I regional court (Bavaria) of committing around 800 cases of sexual assault on young players (13 to 19 years old) of a Munich suburban club. In 153 cases he is said to have even raped the young people in the cabin. For this, the father of the family is now going to prison for seven and a half years.

According to the prosecution, T. pretended to be a trained physiotherapist at the club and regularly asked his players for treatment. Over 30 junior players were among the victims from 2014 and 2020. The father of the family is said to have carried out his practices unnoticed all these years. An incredible crime.

► T. is said to have not only massaged the young footballers during the treatments, but also touched them sexually. Legally, the court classified the acts as sexual assault, and in some cases as rape. He even claimed to his inexperienced protégés that these methods were common in the professional world.

The investigations against the coach began at the beginning of 2021, after which the club separated from him. The first suspicions had already arisen in autumn 2018, when mothers of players found out about the “treatments”. But it was not until autumn 2022 that T. was finally arrested.

► During the trial, some of his former protégés, who are now young adults, had to testify on the witness stand. One of the young men explained: “It was all professional, he used Latin terms. I didn’t question it any further, I just wanted to be good at football.” At the club, T. was called “Doctor” by his players.

► In their plea, the public prosecutor’s office demanded eight years in prison – including so-called preventive detention. Then T. would probably never have been released again. However, preventive detention was not imposed by the court. The court also did not consider the offense of sexual abuse to be fulfilled because the victims were not entrusted to the defendant “to monitor their lifestyle”.

The public prosecutor’s office had charged more than 800 cases of abuse and sexual assault, but the court classified the acts as sexual assault, not abuse of those under protection, in 488 cases. In his verdict, however, the presiding judge spoke of “absolute borderline cases” in the acts that took place, for example, in the training camp – far away from the young people’s parents.

T.’s defense attorney, the renowned Munich lawyer Peter Guttmann, told BILD upon request: “The court largely followed the defense’s requests and weighed them up very carefully.” The lawyer had requested seven years’ imprisonment for his client and himself expressed against preventive detention.
