Foodwatch regrets family formats sold more expensive

Most consumers shop less often and also tend to compare prices less during the containment period. However, traps exist on the shelves of the signs of the
large distribution.

According to a survey by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Foodwatch, products in “maximum size” or “family size” are sometimes more expensive than those sold in conventional format, reports Capital who cites the association. During its investigations on the shelves of certain Cora, Intermarché, Super U, Leclerc, Auchan, Casino, Carrefour and Monoprix supermarkets, Foodwatch spotted a dozen products sold more expensive in large format.

“At Cora, Lustucru brand 5-minute unbeatable long grain rice with a 22.8% increase in the price per kilo between the conventional format (450 g) and the family format (750 g)”, reports the NGO in his press release. She also reports that “at Carrefour, giant hamburger buns of the Jacquet brand cost 29% more per kilo between the classic format (330 g) and the maxi format (495 g)”.

The structure is aimed at distributors in order to ask them for explanations and to encourage them to proscribe these price discrepancies deemed outliers. “This scam on the label concerns many products of everyday life, and this is all the more unacceptable as the current context is favorable for the purchase of large formats,” regrets Foodwatch. “No one is hanging out at the supermarket right now; you don’t necessarily take the time to compare prices, ”she adds.
